Companies often lay off products. They stop producing them because they are either old or are not selling enough.
Depending on the type of part it can be interesting to 3d scan it. The problem with 3d scanning is that you need to adapt the point cloud into a usable/ printable file.
Often it will be better do measure the part and 3d model it into CAD. This allows the client to change very aspect of the product.
